Having an active research and development department, it is a natural progression to protect our inventions with Patents and Registered Designs. Intellectual property also provides security for our clients, whose projects are covered by our IP rights. These are the main reasons why we have so many. Unfortunately there is not a single world Patent, our US patents cover all of North America.

A patent is for a product or process. Each of our UK patents (along with the others) have to have three particular properties. Firstly they must be "New" (the US patent Law replaces "New" with "Novel") Secondly, they must contain an inventive step. Thirdly, they must have an industrial application.

These are often misunderstood. A registered design is for a new "form" (shape, design or pattern), not function.
